Ghostlight
P h o t o g r a p h y
About Richard Pettibone
The prosaic use of a ghostlight is to make it easier to navigate a theater's stage after its gone dark for the night. A more romantic view is that the light allows a theatre's ghosts time to perform. A darker take is that it stays lit to keep mischievous spirits at bay.
As a theatre photographer, this seemed a perfect icon as it dramatically focuses light against the dark -- always the essence at the heart of any good photo. My love of theatre photography paralleled my love of the stage and the many years spent designing, directing and performing.
